Then, at his birthday dinner, everything gets revealed when Ryan brings a redhead to the party. Not wanting to let it slide, Gwen works on getting her revenge.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGwen, why do you look so stressed?\u201d my friend Jessica asked, her voice laced with concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were at the grocery store, getting the final things I needed for the recipes I had been poring over. My husband\u2019s birthday was tomorrow and we had a dinner planned at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I sighed, thinking of the small Ziploc bag in my handbag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I pulled out the bag. Inside was a long strand of bright red hair that I\u2019d found in our bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jessica\u2019s eyes widened as she took the bag from me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, not Michelle. She has a pixie cut now because she\u2019s going through a breakup. I haven\u2019t confronted Ryan yet. I actually thought that it might be a fluke,\u201d I admitted. \u201cBut then I remembered something else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d she asked, waving the bag around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe other day, I found red lipstick on the collar of his shirt. I was so tired that I didn\u2019t even think about it. I just washed it out and carried on with the laundry. But after finding the hair, it\u2019s all I can think about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jessica\u2019s face hardened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I nodded slowly. There was no point in trying to lie to myself anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think he\u2019s cheating on me. Other than the hair and lipstick, Ryan has been staying late at work recently, and it all just adds up to one ugly puzzle,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNothing for the moment. I know you\u2019ll disagree, but Ryan\u2019s birthday dinner is tomorrow and I don\u2019t want to ruin it in case I\u2019m wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I knew that I wasn\u2019t wrong. I knew what I felt in my gut, and that was because everything just felt wrong when I thought about my marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, Ryan and I hadn\u2019t been as intimate as before. We didn\u2019t do as many date nights or anything spontaneous. I figured that it was just life being life, and that we had gotten busy with our jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We argued over everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLook,\u201d Jess said. \u201cI understand that you need to reevaluate it and look at everything, but you also need to know that you can\u2019t let it go on indefinitely. You have two kids to worry about. So, think about them, too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day, as I finished up the final touches on the platters of food, my nerves were on edge. The guests started arriving for the party, and Ryan got more excited every time the doorbell rang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is going to be so great, honey!\u201d he said, walking around the house, making sure that everyone had a drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I plastered a smile on my face, greeting everyone and giving them bites to eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, Ryan walked in with her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHoney, this is Stacy,\u201d Ryan said, gesturing to the red-haired woman beside him. His hand was around her waist, and she batted her eyelashes at him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stacy smiled brightly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I forced a smile. Inside, I was seething. The resemblance to the hair and lipstick was unmistakable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNice to meet you, Stacy,\u201d I said, trying to keep my face expressionless. \u201cMake yourself at home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the party, I kept up the charade, mingling with guests and keeping a close eye on Stacy and my husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I played the footage of Ryan and Stacy together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI can\u2019t believe this,\u201d he said, his voice strained. \u201cThank you for telling me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
